Address: Piazza Ognissanti
The church Ognissanti (All Saints) was first erected between
1252 and 1255, then reconstructed in baroque style in the XVII -
XVIII century. The bell-tower only is still original, from the
time when the church was first started. The beautiful
front-facade is the masterpiece by Matteo Nifetti and it is
considered as one of best examples of baroque architecture in
Florence. Next to the church, in the cloister, in the Refectory
room, the famous "Last Supper" Domenico Ghirlandaio.
Inside of the church the second chapel on the right is dedicated
to the Vespucci family. Whose most famous member was Amerigo (the
one who gave his name to the new country he visited, immediately
after been discovered: "America").
Near the chapel, on the wall, there is a fresco-painting by
Domenico Ghirlandaio showing the whole Vespucci family. Amerigo
is probably the young man, dark-haired, just on the right of the
Virgin Mary. The young girl represented below the left-hand of
Mary is supposed to bethe "beautiful Simonetta
Vespucci".
