Tradition of Florentine Silverware

E-mail

Franco Sacchi was barely twelve years old when he began working as an apprentice in one of the many silversmith shops that were thriving - this is in the mid-thirties - in the historic San Frediano and Santo Spirito districts of Florence. Like so many other boys of his age, he was there to learn a trade that would earn his livelihood.
But as opposed to many of the others, he was so enthusiastic about his work that he soon became a master craftsman and teacher for all those smiths and apprentices who would work in "his" shop for years to come.
One of these apprentices was his son Luca who took over the business in 1980. Luca deserves the credit for having combined great respect for pure Renaissance silversmithing tradition and the demands of modern, original products. A fine example is the collection (trays, plates, ecc.) made of braided silver wires that reproposes the ancient craft of the Florentine straw plaiters in precious metal.
