Rembrandt. Of the great Dutch master's works these are shown the Portrait of an Old Man, a Thoughful idealization of senility, and two self-portraits, one when young and one at a more mature age; the latter sad and resigned, very different from the other with its youth-ful impudent air. Along the walls a rich collection of Flemish and Dutch masters, specialists in Still Lifes, landscapes, lively glimpses of life, in precious ebony frames, which aim at recreating an old-fashioned small picture gallery. The View with Copper Mine by Civetta is celebrated; as is the limpid view of the Groote Markt of Harlem by Gerrit Berckheyde; Rachel Ruysch and Jan van Huysum are present with two extremely realistic Still Lifes.
