Room of Niobe. This room was made by Grand Duke Pietro Leopold of Lorraine, who commissioned the architect Gasparre M. Paoletti to built it (1777-80) to hold the group of Niobe and her Children, Roman copy an original Hellenistic work of the III-II cent. B.C. The style of the architecture is neo-classic. The group of statues was found in Rome in 1583. In the center is a marble vase of the 3rd century belonging to the Medici collection. The walls of this splendid room are enriched by Medicean tapestries representing episodes from the Lives of the Medici Grand Dukes, and, on the opposite wall, Stories of Moses.
