Dedicated to Rubens (1577-1640). Heroic and passionate personality, formed in Rome and Venice, he reaches the height of expression on his return to Antwerp (1608). We can admire his large canvases of Henry IV at the Battle of Ivry, Triumphant Entry of Henry IV into Paris, and the small Portrait of his wife Isabella Brandt, a work of pleasant and poetic intimacy. Of Ruben's school notice the Portrait of Galileo Galilei, by Sustermans, Flemish painter active at the Medici court; Portrait of Giovanni di Montfort, by Van Dyck, and, by the Genoese Gaulli called il Baciccio, the portrait of Cardinal Leopold de' Medici.
