The term
Scagliola refers to a technique of working
marble, which has been known since classical time
and was perfected in Florence in the 16th
century. Originally Scagliola was born as an
imitation of marble, but because of its hardness
and possibilities of imitating colours it soon
became an art of its own.
The design is transferred graphically on to a
marble slab, which is then engraved to a variable
depth, maximum being 5 mm. The design is then
inlaid with a mixture made of crushed marble,
resin and colour; once it is dry the surface is
smoothed and then polished.
Coming in any sharpe and size the scagliola table
tops/wall pannels can be ordered with any design
and on various marble backgrounds (beige, white,
green, black, dark red etc.).
