Roberto Benigni at Fi.Esta - Florence Summer 2007

It's Fi.Esta time!

Concerts, shows and readings: Florence's summer cultural programme includes a myriad of events in some of the city's most beautiful spots.

Florence's summer cultural programme has already got under way, and there is something for all tastes, ages and pockets. It is called Fi.Esta and features dozens of events in some of the city's most beautiful venues.

Under the artistic direction of singer Piero Pelů, Fi.Esta includes a succession of big names and unmissable events: Dario Fo on Michelangelo, Roberto Benigni reading Dante under the stars and Ennio Morricone conducting a concert of his celebrated soundtracks There is also a very full musical programme, with concerts by popular Italian and international musicians, plus ethnic groups and singer-songwriters.

Another major strand in the programme is theatre and literature, with plenty of space being given to some of the finest classic and contemporary works, for instance a reading of Anna Karenina (25-29 June, Biblioteca Comunale Centrale, free admission), poetry readings, performances by Zauberteatro on a boat on the Arno and shows in the former mental asylum of San Salvi.

There are also lots of interesting film screenings in the cool setting of Forte Belvedere, plus group shows of contemporary artists, dance (Cango, Momix, ballet, etc.) and lots more. To cap it all, many of the events in the programme are free.

With so much going on, there is the risk of missing something, so check out the Fi.Esta official website for the full programme and details about individual events. Buona Fi.Esta!
